Joe Paterno is gone

leaguerulesfrownupon:

As he should be. I’ve spent all day covering this and I feel like I can say that there was nothing that Joe Paterno could have said that would have taken the blame off of him. There just wasn’t. It’s pretty clear in the grand jury release that Joe Paterno was told no less than “Sandusky was in the shower touching a 10 year old boy”. That he didn’t follow up on it becomes inexcusable at that point.

It’s a rare moment of fairness in college football. What happened is terrible, especially because it’s clear people in power could have prevented further abuse. But I was very worried earlier in the day that Joe Paterno was going to decide his own fate.

Reggie Bush didn’t know how his mom paid for her new house, and didn’t feel it was his place to ask. But because he didn’t ask he had his Heisman taken away and USC had to forfeit national titles. Cam Newton was subjected to months of ridicule because he was unaware his father solicited money to get Cam to sign at a school. Dez Bryant was not allowed to finish his last college season because he had dinner with Deion Sanders without knowing it was considered a violation.

It is only fair that Joe Paterno be held to the same standard as the young men he coaches, especially when the actions he neglected were infinitely worse and ruined lives

i couldn’t agree more…
